Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, has once again fulfilled its legislative mandate in relation to the quality assurance of the management and administration of exit point examinations in the following qualifications per assessment body
It has come to the attention of Umalusi and the Department of Higher Education and Training that many public HEls do not consider applicants whose entry qualification is the National Certificate (Vocational) as an NQF level 4 qualification rather than the well-known and recognised National Senior Certificate.
Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, has made a determination to retain language compensation at 3% for learners who study through the medium of English as a second language in Grade 12 from 2016 until 2022. After serious consideration of this matter, Umalusi Council decided to review its previous decision to phase out language compensation from 2014 to 2017, which entailed gradually scaling it down from 4% in 2014 to 1% in 2017.
Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, has taken a decision not to issue certificates to learners who are enrolled at independent schools that are not accredited by Umalusi. This decision is informed by the need for all independent schools to be accredited by Umalusi before they can offer qualifications that fall within Umalusi's mandate. The decision will come into effect in January 2017 following a notice given by Umalusi to all unaccredited schools to apply for accreditation before 31 October 2016.
